Fly Fishing

Fly Fishing at our Colorado Lodge

Our private stretch of the legendary Big Laramie River meanders through the middle of the ranch, offering anglers of all abilities incredible fly-fishing opportunities. Spend an early morning casting for rainbow, brown and brook trout just steps behind the Lodge. Or enjoy an easy morning of casting lessons, then head out before dinner for peaceful fishing at dusk. Each of our fly-fishing vacation packages includes one half-day with your professional guide providing personal instruction, flies and all your terminal gear.

In addition to our hallmark stretch of the Big Laramie River, Rawah guests have access to stretches of the Poudre River and local lakes and creeks in the nearby Rawah Wilderness area.

One half-day of fly fishing is included in every Colorado vacation package. For additional days of guided fishing, we offer an excellent Anglers Retreat package for the avid fisherman, as well as additional single days. A valid Colorado State Fishing License is required by law for anglers 16 years of age and older. Contact us with any questions.

FAQ

Do I need to know how to Fly fish beforehand?

No. Our Colorado guest ranch guides are happy to explain and teach on land and in the water.

Are there lessons I can take?

Yes. Our Rawah Ranch guides take their time to teach you the proper technique to casting on the lawn before they take you to the water. They are very knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions you have or help you improve your technique.

Is this a good activity for kids?

We like to ensure that everyone enjoys their time at the ranch. Because it is a little more difficult for kids to cast with out getting tangled in surrounding terrain, our guides suggest any child under the age of 12 fishes in our pond rather than the river so they get the best experience possible.

Can I bring my own gear?

Yes, you can bring your own gear. We ask that you leave it in our fishing shed that remains locked.

Do I have to fish with a guide?

Yes, you will have to have a guide with you to fish on our Colorado guest ranch property. If you’d like to fish off property on your own, our guides will be happy to offer suggestions for good spots.

Do I need a fishing license even on private property?

Yes. You will need a fishing license if you plan on fishing at all during your stay, on or off property. Licenses can be purchased online or at a Colorado based sporting goods store.

Where can I get a fishing license?

The easiest way to acquire one would be online at the Colorado Parks & Rec website ( https://cpw.state.co.us/buyapply/Pages/Fishing.aspx). You can also purchase them at most Walmarts, gas stations and outdoor retailers in the state of Colorado.
